Brief Description:  Cowling screws and cover plates

Installed the cowling anchor nuts, A6191-8Z-1D. I ordered some #8x5/8 type "B" truss head Phillips screws for the cowling installation. There is a comment in the Aircraft Spruce catalog that suggests the blunt head, type "B", sheet metal screws should be used with the Tinnerman anchor nuts. The prints call out and 8Rx5/8-THA-SS screw which is the pointed tip type "A" sheet metal screw.

Re-oriented the tail inspection plates. With the screws vert/hor per the print, the screws interfere with the angle structures. At 45 degrees, there is no interference.

Installed the other six inspection plates on the wings. The print calls for #4 screws, but I find those are too small and easy to strip. I'll use #6x3/8 truss head Phillips screws as used on the fairings. All the screw-on fairings and inspection covers will then conveniently use the same hardware.

I still need to do some fiberglass filler work on the cowling, but since it is basically secure, it's time to start thinking about engine baffle installation.

I decided I'll try installing the wing tips with screws in case it becomes necessary to remove them occasionally. I ordered #8 anchor nuts, rivets and screws to do that. Basically the same hardware used on the cowling. There are about 88 fasteners to install and 176 rivets. Additional hardware will run about $55 to allow the tips to be removable.
